Bruno Mars is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He was born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Peter Hernandez and Bernadette San Pedro Bayot. His father is of Puerto Rican and Jewish descent, and his mother is of Filipino, Spanish, and some other European descent.

Mars began making music at a young age and performed in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his childhood. He graduated from high school in 2003 and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career.

Mars signed a recording contract with Motown Records in 2004, and his debut single, "Just the Way You Are," was released in 2010.
