Biography:
Daft Punk is an electronic music duo formed in Paris, France in 1993 by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. The duo achieved significant popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement and had continuous success in the years following, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock and synthpop. They are noted for their elaborate live shows, which feature elaborate stage designs and costumes.
Musical Career:
Daft Punk's first studio album, Homework, was released in 1997, and featured the hit singles "Around the World" and "Da Funk". The duo's second album, Discovery, was released in 2001 and featured the singles "One More Time" and "Digital Love". The album was a critical and commercial success, selling over 2.5 million copies in the United States and becoming one of the best-selling albums of the decade. The duo's third album, Human After All, was released in 2005 and featured the singles "Robot Rock" and "Technologic". The album was met with a mixed reception, but was still commercially successful, selling over 1 million copies in the United States.
Influences and Musical Style:
Daft Punk's music is heavily influenced by funk, disco, and electronic music from the 1970s and 1980s. The duo has also drawn influence from a number of other genres, including rock, hip hop, and techno. The duo's sound is characterized by robotic and heavily processed vocals, distorted synthesizers, and heavy use of sampling.
