Biography
Lizzo is an American singer, rapper, and songwriter. She was born Melissa Viviane Jefferson in Detroit, Michigan, on April 27, 1988. She was raised in Houston, Texas and is of African-American and Native American descent. She attended the University of Houston and the University of Minnesota, where she studied classical flute and music theory.
Musical Career
Lizzo began her musical career in 2011, releasing her first EP, Lizzobangers. The EP was met with critical acclaim and earned her a nomination for the Minnesota Music Awards' “Best Hip-Hop/R&B Artist” category. In 2013, she released her debut album, Lizzobangers. The album was a success and earned her a nomination for the 2014 Grammy Awards' “Best Rap Album” category.
In 2015, she released her second album, Big Grrrl Small World. The album was a commercial success and earned her a nomination for the 2016 Grammy Awards' “Best Urban Contemporary Album” category. In 2017, she released her third album, Coconut Oil. The album was a commercial success and earned her a nomination for the 2018 Grammy Awards' “Best Urban Contemporary Album” category.
In 2019, she released her fourth studio album, Cuz I Love You. The album was a commercial success and earned her a nomination for the 2020 Grammy Awards' “Best Urban Contemporary Album” category.
