Biography
Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller, was an American rapper, singer, and record producer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born on January 19, 1992 and passed away on September 7, 2018.
Musical Career
Miller began his career in 2007 when he released his debut mixtape titled “But My Mackin’ Ain’t Easy”. He followed up with the mixtapes “The Jukebox: Prelude to Class Clown” and “The High Life” in 2009. He then released his debut studio album “Blue Slide Park” in 2011, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Miller released his second studio album “Watching Movies with the Sound Off” in 2013, which was met with critical acclaim. He then released his third studio album “GO:OD AM” in 2015, which was also met with critical acclaim. His fourth studio album “The Divine Feminine” was released in 2016 and his fifth studio album “Swimming” was released in 2018.
Influences and Musical Style
Miller was heavily influenced by jazz music, as well as hip-hop and alternative rock. His musical style was often described as having an “eclectic mix of styles”, and he often incorporated elements of jazz, soul, funk, and pop into his music.
