Biography
Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. The band was founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. Nirvana's brief run ended following the death of Cobain in 1994, but the band's influence continues to have an impact on modern rock music.
Musical Career
Nirvana's first album, Bleach, was released in 1989. The album was a success, and it helped to establish the band as one of the leading grunge acts of the time. The band's second album, Nevermind, released in 1991, was an even bigger success and propelled the band to international fame. The album featured the hit single "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which became an anthem for the alternative rock movement of the 1990s.
Influences and Musical Style
Nirvana's sound was heavily influenced by punk rock, particularly the bands of the early 1980s, such as the Melvins, Black Flag, and the Pixies. The band also drew influence from the grunge scene of Seattle, as well as traditional heavy metal. Nirvana's sound was characterized by loud, distorted guitars, aggressive vocals, and hard-hitting drums.
