Noir Désir was a French alternative rock band formed in 1980 in Bordeaux. The founding members of the band were Bertrand Cantat (vocals and guitar), Serge Teyssot-Gay (guitar), Denis Barthe (drums), and Frédéric Vidalenc (bass). The band was active until its dissolution in 2010. The name "Noir Désir" was inspired by the title of André Gide's novel "Si le grain ne meurt."
