The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist Anthony Kiedis, guitarist Hillel Slovak, bassist Flea, and drummer Jack Irons. Slovak and Irons left the band in 1988 and were replaced by guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith, who would become the longest-standing members of the band.
