Biography
Ten Years After is an English blues rock band formed in Nottingham in 1967. The band consists of Alvin Lee (guitar and vocals), Chick Churchill (keyboards), Leo Lyons (bass) and Ric Lee (drums). The band was one of the most popular acts at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and their performance of "I'm Going Home" was featured in the 1970 documentary film Woodstock.
Musical Career
Ten Years After started their career in 1967, releasing their debut album, Ten Years After, in 1968. The album was a success, reaching the Top 30 in the UK and Top 10 in the US. The band followed up with their second album, Stonedhenge, in 1969. The album featured the hit single "I'm Going Home", which became a staple of their live performances. The band released a total of 11 studio albums between 1968 and 1974, including the classic albums A Space in Time (1971) and Watt (1973).
Influences and Musical Style
Ten Years After's sound was heavily influenced by blues and rock, with elements of jazz and psychedelic rock. The band's sound was driven by Alvin Lee's distinctive and powerful guitar playing, which was heavily influenced by blues guitarists such as B.B. King and Albert King. The band also incorporated elements of jazz and funk into their music, as well as more experimental elements such as extended jamming and improvisation.
